The Blountstown Lady Tigers lost two out of three on the diamond last week, putting their record at 6-4 overall and 1-4 in the district.

The girls started the month of March with a trip to Panama City and fell to Bozeman, 11-1.

Brittany Griffin took the loss on the mound. Ann Marie Silcox led at the plate with a double and an RBI. Griffin and Anna Kelley each had a single.

“Everything we hit was straight at them,” says Coach Bubba Johnson. “We just played cold offensively and defensively. It was our worst performance of the year.”

The Lady Tigers turned it around Thursday when they traveled to Eastpoint and brought home a 9-4 win over Franklin County. Griffin was the winning pitcher and also put the bat in motion, getting a double and two singles. Kelley added a triple and a single. Silcox, Montoya Garrett, and Amber Burch each had two singles. Brittany Brown added a double. Genny Starr and Lindsey Doyal chipped in a single each.

Next up was South Walton at home on Friday. The Lady Tigers suffered an 8-1 loss. Griffin was on the mound, striking out seven, walking four, and allowing two runs.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers were not on their game. “Costly errors at crucial times were our downfall,” Coach Johnson remarks. “Their pitcher struck out 16 of our batters. We didn’t perform at the plate. We may have been sluggish somewhat due to an away game on Thursday.”

Griffin and Garrett were the offensive leaders with a double and single each. Kelley and Burch both had a single.

In J.V. action, the girls improved to 7-2 with three straight wins. They defeated Bozeman, 14-4. Tiffany Abbott got her first win of the season on the mound. Kimberly Jenks led at the plate with two singles and five RBIs.

Kassie Wood had two singles and four RBIs.

The J.V. girls defeated Franklin County, 8-6. Courtney McFarland was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 5-2. Kaycee Yon led at the plate with two singles.

Next up was South Walton and the J.V. girls defeated them, 12-9, with McFarland getting the win again on the mound. Jenks, Wood, Shayla Chason and Kelsey Bontrager all had singles.

“Our kids were patient at the plate,” says Coach Johnson. “

There were many walks and we outpitched them.”

The Lady Tigers travel to Bonifay Friday and host Cottondale Monday with both being district games. J.V. takes to the field at 4 p.m. both days with varsity following at 6.
