Matthew Emmett Powell, 80 of Bristol, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Tallahassee.

Emmett was born in Samson, Alabama, November 11, 1940, to the late Matthew Washington Powell and Ernestine Danley Powell. Emmett attended Auburn and Troy University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree and later entered the United States Air Force. After leaving the service, Emmett was instrumental in setting up and managing pole mills and worked in the logging and pole mill industry until his retirement.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Faye Powell and his son, Terry Allen Powell.
Survivors include his sons, David Powell of Bristol and Emmett Powell and his wife, Deena of Bristol; his daughter, April Landrum and her husband George of Blountstown; his brothers, Millard Powell and his wife Donna of Geneva, Alabama, Roy Powell and his wife Beverly also of Geneva and Robin Powell and his wife Ashley of Chancellor, Alabama; his sisters, Debbie Beckham and her husband Sonny of Seagrove Beach and Genita Drury of Samson, Alabama; his grandchildren, Shaela Powell, Tyler Powell and his wife Morgan, Blake Powell and his wife Cailin, Megan Copeland and her husband Joey, Ellen Powell, Hope Landrum and Sawyer Landrum; his great grandchildren, Emma Kate Powell, Zoey Copeland and Tate Holcomb.
Services to honor Emmett’s life were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Bristol Cemetery.
