The search continued at press time Tuesday for a missing boater believed to have drowned on the Apalachicola River.
Ernest “Pee Wee” Prevatte, 48, has been missing since Jan. 24 when the boat he was in with his son-in-law, Robert Bailey, Sr., 35, sank after they ran out of gas. Bailey made it safely to Trammell Bridge but Prevatte never surfaced.
“We are continuing to search for the vessel,” says Stan Kirkland of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. “So far, that’s been elusive. We had hoped that finding the boat would give us a place to start looking.”
Kirkland says search and rescue teams are searching as far south as Wewa and have recovered several personal items from the boat including a life jacket, a gas tank, and a coat that belonged to Bailey.
