A Blountstown woman lost her life over the weekend after being struck by a vehicle.
Donna Basford, 50, was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Rebecca A. Clemmons, 31, was behind the wheel of a 2003 Toyota sport utility vehicle Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. She was traveling south on SR 69. As she approached the intersection of NE Parish Lake Road near Swampy Tonk’s bar, Basford reportedly stepped into the path of Clemmons’ SUV and the front of the vehicle struck Basford. Clemmons was not injured.
Sources say Basford may have been coming out of Swampy Tonk’s trying to get a signal on her cellphone when she stepped into the roadway. A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol could not confirm or deny this, only to say there are numerous witnesses who will be interviewed before the investigation is completed.
