Margaret Helon Clark Weand, 87, known to all as Helon, died December 17, 2009, in Tallahassee, FL.

Helon was born July 14, 1922, in Blountstown, Florida. She graduated from the Montreat College, near Asheville, NC. Helon met the then Master Sergeant Arnold E. Weand of Dale Mabry Field and they were married October 24, 1942. The Weands resided in Blountstown after the war where she worked for the school system as an accountant. They moved to Tallahassee in 1970. She continued her accounting career working for the Leon County School Board and the Leon County Tax Assessor. Helon was retired from the Leon County School Board. Helon and Arnold are members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was an active Elkett and served as President 1981-1982. Helon was an accomplished artist and loved to sew with the Bernia Connection group.

Helon was predeceased by her parents, Charles Dennis Clark and Maggie Messer Clark, her sister, Corrie, brothers, C.L. and Herman, and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold; her children, Lynda Makin (Wayne) of Tallahassee and COL (USA Ret.) Arnold “Sandy” Weand, Jr. (Carol) of Huntsville, AL; her grandchildren, Melissa Makin, Tallahassee, Joshua Weand, currently in Afghanistan, CW2 Caleb Weand, Ft. Lewis, WA (Jennifer) and Joanna Weand, Huntsville, AL; and her brother, William Burton “Jargo” Clark (Eunice), of Madison, FL.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home and Memorial Park on Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL. Friends are to be welcomed between 10:00 and 10:50 a.m. at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Big Bend Hospice or the Ed Wynn Sunday School Class.
