Mr. Charlie Cook Bridges, 86, of Scotts Ferry, FL, passed away at his home early Tuesday, March 3, 2015.
Mr. Bridges was born on April 19, 1928, in Washington County. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as part of the 187th Air Borne. Charlie had lived in Calhoun County, FL, all of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blountstown and attended Williams Memorial United Methodist Church in Scotts Ferry. He was a member of the Iamonia Lake Hunting and Fishing Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. Charlie was a retired Chevron Jobber and was also a beekeeper for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Verna Williams Bridges; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pug and Aliene Gaskin; a brother, Lionel Bridges; and a great-grandson, Christopher Bontrager.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Cathryn Bridges; two daughters: Pam Jones and husband Greg, of the Carr Community, and Lea Bridges of Blountstown; a nephew, Chuck Reed, and wife, Julie, of Thomasville, GA; seven grandchildren, Travis Greene and wife, Natosha, of Scotts Ferry, Jana Bontrager and husband, Scott, of Kingsport, TN, Valerie Rash and husband, Kyle, of Havana, FL, Mary Cathryn Jacobs and husband, Ben, of Scotts Ferry, Sharlyn Marie Smith of Blountstown, Joseph Reed of Tallahassee, and Cameron Reed of Tallahassee; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Bridges, of Blountstown; and one sister, Patricia Williams, of Blountstown.
Funeral Services for Mr. Charlie Cook Bridges will be held at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown on Friday, March 6, at 11:00 AM (CST) with the Reverend Ken Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM (CST). Interment will be held in the Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Covenant Hospice, Inc., 4215 Kelson Avenue #E, Marianna, FL 32446, ph.
