Bertha Wilson Walker Allison, 92, formerly of Bristol, Florida, passed away Wednesday evening, October 14, 2009, at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster, Alabama, with her family at her side.

She was born February 13, 1918, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Bruce Winston Walker and Belle Francis Jones Walker. She attended high school at Lyman Ward Academy in Camp Hill, Alabama, from 1933 to 1937 and graduated from South Highlands Infirmary Nursing School with an L.P.N. in 1948. She attended Jefferson State Junior College and obtained her Associates in Nursing R.N. in 1972. She also attended Chipola Junior College from 1974-1975 where she studied art and painting. She excelled at painting and enjoyed this hobby well into her late eighties. She worked as a nurse at Thuss Clinic in Birmingham from 1949-1966, and South Highlands Hospital in Birmingham from 1966 -1973. She moved from Alabama to Bristol in 1973 and was a dedicated registered nurse at Calhoun General Hospital from 1973- 1980. She loved Lake Mystic and the people and communities of Calhoun and Liberty Counties and had many good and loyal friends.

Bertha was a fabulous cook, excellent artist, and a compassionate and competent nurse. She had a strong appreciation of good literature, food, music, dance, art and nature. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. She loved unconditionally and without judgment and lived her life to the fullest. She was an excellent example of the golden rule and was blessed with many friends of all ages and from all walks of life.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dalton King, of Birmingham, Alabama and a brother, Waverly "Sam" Walker, of Bynum, Alabama.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra A. Walters of Birmingham, Alabama, and Nina B. Allison of Atlanta, Georgia, and Bristol; sisters, Georgia Belle Tucker and Mary Joan Parker, of Cullman, Alabama; brothers, Robert Preston Walker of Alabaster, Alabama, and William L. Lewis of Grant's Pass, Oregon; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six nephews and 11 nieces. She was the best daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend one could ever ask for and was admired by all. She is truly unforgettable.

There will be a memorial service 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, at the Bristol Christian Church with Reverend Les Brown officiating.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements (ph. 643-5410 or online at www.adamsfh.com).
