Marie Evelyn (Schulz) Martin, 89, of Lancaster, PA, awakened in Glory on Sunday, February 2, 2014.
She was born May 5, 1924, near Shelbyville, IL, to the late Dr. Julius A. and Viola (Hostetler) Schulz.
Marie was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Landis Carpenter Martin; a daughter-in-law, Mary Edna Martin; and an infant grandson.
She is survived by children, Carol (John) Yoder of Grantsville, MD, Nelson (Margaret) of Louisville, KY, David (Barbara) of Lancaster, PA, John (Jeanette) of Kihei, HI and Nathan (Ruth) of Fredericksburg, OH; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Corlene Schulz of Lancaster, PA; several sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Marie devoted her life to sweet service to her family, making a pleasant home wherever their many travels took them. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and feeding the birds. She also delighted the children with special birthday cakes.
Marie remembered friends and family with loving birthday cards and letters.
During her Ohio years she was blessed to grade prison Bible-study courses and to correspond encouraging words.
Ever the warm hostess and gentle friend, she faithfully followed Landis both in ministry and many other labors of love. In the course of their lives, they and at least some of their children were blessed to have lived in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, Knoxville, TN (2-year pastorate), Sarasota, FL, Blountstown, FL and Burr Oak, MI, where Landis pastored the South Colon Mennonite Church for 17 years prior to his death in 1990.
The older children have pleasant memories of ministry/God-seeking summers in or near Goshen, IN, Palmetto, FL, Gulfport, MS, Ponchatoula, LA and Atmore, AL.
In 1993, Marie, Corlene, and their mother moved near Nathan in Fredericksburg, OH, and then in 2008, Marie and Corlene moved to an apartment attached
to her son David's house near Lancaster, PA.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Fairmount Homes in Ephrata, PA, where Marie has received care for the last year.
