A Fountain man was booked into the Calhoun County Jail this week following an investigation into a September accident.
Danny Odell Carnley, Jr., 27, has been charged with DUI with property damage and injury to another, along with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carnley was southbound on SR 71 in Calhoun County around 5:42 a.m. on Sept. 21. He was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to judge the closing distance between his pickup and the rear of a Chevy van traveling in front of him.
Carnley’s vehicle collided with the van, forcing it off the roadway. The van overturned several times into a tree line and the driver, Pedro Simon Chavez, 29, of Altha, was transported to Bay Medical Center in critical condition. Carnley was taken to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital with serious injuries.
Trooper D. Antonetti investigated the case that resulted in Carnley’s arrest.
