Last week, The County Record shared details from an internal investigation at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, specifically the jail.
The investigation that began Aug. 1 includes allegations from both male and female inmates housed at the jail, along with two jail correctional officers who corroborated their claims of being denied medical care, inmates distributing prescription medication to other inmates, and retaliation by pepper spray for simply sassing the nurse who is married to the jail administrator.
Further digging into the details of the report this week revealed one inmate alleged being placed in a holding cell and pepper sprayed by the jail administrator for refusing medication from the nurse. In addition, one inmate who spoke to The County Record alleges a female held without bond and awaiting trial on a murder charge was being allowed to serve as a trustee. The inmate alleges the female and another inmate were taken off jail premises to do cleaning tasks at the home of the administrator and nurse.
