Two weeks ago, The County Record shared the drama that unfolded when a public records request was made for a report on an internal investigation at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Despite Sheriff Buddy Money’s request that we not run the information we received, it would be a violation of journalistic duty and the trust our readers put in our reporting each week to ignore the alarming allegations that were uncovered.
According to the report, several inmates - along with two correctional officers - stepped forward to report issues involving a nurse at the jail, as well as her husband who serves as administrator.
Both male and female inmates, along with an officer, reported the nurse was having inmates distribute medication to other inmates. One described being given the wrong medicine, spitting the pill out, then watching as the nurse gave the pill that was in her mouth to the correct inmate (the inmate receiving the pill had no knowledge it had been spit out).
A jail officer and inmates described “retaliation” by the nurse’s husband that involved being pepper sprayed if anyone “disrespected” his wife.
Officers also described the nurse denying medical care to inmates who really needed it. One inmate told The County Record she did not receive her blood pressure medication the entire four months she was incarcerated at the Liberty County Jail despite repeated requests.
Most alarming is the fact the case was simply closed after the nurse resigned “in lieu of further investigation into the complaint.” As of press time, her husband remained the administrator at the Liberty County Jail.
Watch for more details in part 2 of this story in next week’s edition of The County Record.
Sounds like getting Finch out was only the beginning of the issues. Sounds to me like the Gov needs to have FDLE take over the entire jail until they can find someone with enough integrity to do the job the right way. Sounds like a bunch of clowns running the place to me.
Let's see.....Since 4 months ago, from the time of Nick Finch's arrest (June 4th) that would be 2 days from now. Then from the time of this "Press- Release" would make it NEXT WEEK.......I would say Nick Finch was in office, from the start of this problem!! I know EXACTLY 4 Months ago, Sheriff Money Was not in office, and the interim Sheriff was not in office..............
