Elder Sammy Joe Peterson of the Hugh Creek Community of Blountstown, Florida, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Covenant Hospice at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Florida.

Elder Sammy J. Peterson was the pastor of the Victory Temple Church of God in Christ in Bristol, Florida. To know him was to love him.

A life celebration service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11:00 AM CST from the sanctuary of the Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, 21482 SE Mayhaw Drive, Blountstown, where Elder Andrew J. Davis is pastor. Interment will be in the Magnolia Cemetery, Blountstown.

Elder Peterson will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until time for the service.

He leaves to cherish a lifetime of fond, precious memories, loving and devoted family, his wife, Missionary Martha L. Peterson of Blountstown; five sons, Sammy Lee Peterson, Jr. (Judy) of Marianna, Elder John P. Peterson (Co-Pastor Brenda Peterson) of Donalsonville, Georgia, David Borders (Kameil) of Port Orchard, Washington, Demetrius Peterson of Bristol, and Robert Borders of Marianna; three daughters, Pastor Dorothy Jean Sarpong (Bishop Joseph Sarpong) of Bainbridge, Georgia, Elnora Libby Borders (Joseph) of Blountstown, and Melissa Borders Hall (Nathaniel) of Blountstown; one adopted daughter, Anna Simpson Peterson, of Panama City; two sisters, Vera Lee Bryant (Buster), and Castoria Peterson, both of Blountstown; two brothers, Raymond Peterson (Mildred) of St. Petersburg, and Dock Andrew Peterson (Dorothy) of Panama City; two aunts, Ethel Bowers of Marianna and Minnie Ivory Anderson of Port St. Joe; one uncle, Frank Peterson, of Tallahassee; four sisters-in-law, Annie Baker (Arthur) of Marianna, Coretha Bogier (Bishop Lawrence Bogier) of Goldbora, NC, Ella Mae Peterson of Blountstown, Florida, and Bessie Peterson of Panama City; four brothers-in-law, Earnest Williams of Marianna, Horace Williams of Greenwood, Willie Williams of Detroit, MI, and Sylvester Kimble of Panama City; 23 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Vann Funeral Home of Marianna is in charge of arrangements (ph. 850-482-3300).

Truly enjoyed reading your comments regarding my my Dad (Mr. Sam). Yes...he was truly a man who displayed integrity throughout his life. Realizing that one day we all will come to the end of our jouney so we should stive to leave a good legacy for others to remember our good deeds. Many blessings to you and your family.
