Mr. William Armond (Bill) Ayers, Sr., 85, of Blountstown, FL, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, in Blountstown.
Bill was born on February 6, 1928, in Jackson County and had lived in Calhoun County for most of his life. He was a retired commercial and residential contractor and carpenter. During his many years, Bill constructed hundreds of homes and apartment buildings. He also worked on the Capital Building in Tallahassee, W.T. Neal Civic Center in Blountstown and the Jai Alai building in Chattahoochee. Bill gave numerous young men in our community their first jobs working in construction to earn money and build good character. Bill had a love for farming the land and watching it grow. He was a 1947 graduate of Blountstown High School and was a Veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blountstown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Ayers; son, Billy Ayers; brother, Herbert Spencer Ayers; and sister, Katherine Smith.
Survivors include one son, Spencer Ayers, and his wife, Pam, of Blountstown; one daughter, Cynthia Aultman, and her husband, Jimmy, of Blountstown; one brother, James M. Ayers, and his wife, Dot, of Blountstown; three sisters, Jessie Mae Price of Blountstown, Abbye Faurot and her husband, Billy, of Blountstown, and Carolyn Dykes of Morgan City, LA; four grandchildren, Cindy Golden and her husband, Grant, Derek Aultman and his wife, Danielle, Crystal McClellan and her husband, Todd, and Stephen Ayers; nine great-grandchildren, Britt, Lane, Kaylin, Kelsey, Alex, Kaydan, Alicia, Will and Gabe; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Konnor.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19, at 3:00 pm (CDT) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Ronnie Wright and Carlton Van Lierop officiating. Interment followed in Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown.
