A Liberty County man was arrested Thursday after allegedly holding his girlfriend against her will and attempting to strangle her.
William Carlton Dean, 38, has been charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and tampering with a witness by denying access to a phone.
According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the woman came forward the morning after the alleged incident when she showed up at work with difficulty breathing, a black eye and swelling around her neck.
The woman said she and Dean were at a Quincy bar the previous night when he learned about a prior relationship she had with a man he knew. She said an argument ensued and turned physical on their way home. She alleged he hit her, shoved her head into a window, destroyed her phone when she tried to call for help, and refused to allow her to escape the vehicle.
Once they arrived at her home, the woman said Dean threw her into the ground next to the pool, threatened to drown her and tried to strangle her.
