It was all about “Boots, Blue Jeans and Barbecue” Friday night at the 66th Annual Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet held at the W.T. Neal Civic Center.
The casual-themed evening featured the “Twenty on Red” band. Following a delicious dinner prepared by Jeremy Whitworth and his team, awards were presented. The finale was the Citizen of the Year Award presented to Winston Deason by Chamber President Ben Hall.
As Hall pointed out, Deason is a lifetime public servant. He has been Blountstown police chief and mayor, plus one of the original “Grumpy Old Men’s Club” members who dedicated their time building wheelchair ramps for the homebound and even a house. A friend, mentor and inspiring gospel singer, Deason is truly worthy of the 2013 Citizen of the Year honor.
