A Bristol couple is facing grand theft charges in Calhoun County after going on a $4900 shopping spree with a woman’s income tax refund.
William Kevin Lindsey, 46, and Vicki Michelle Stout, 44, have been charged in the case.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, a woman received an H & R Block Mastercard with a $4952 tax refund balance on the card. She left the card in her mother’s vehicle, a car that was being purchased from Stout. However, when the engine blew up on the vehicle, Stout and Lindsey retrieved the car from the roadside in Liberty County. The woman’s daughter soon realized she had left her tax refund card in the vehicle, but it could not be located.
After reporting the card stolen, a replacement was issued and the victim discovered her balance was only $27.
Upon being questioned by Lt. Jared Nichols, Stout admitted to the shopping spree that included an air compressor from Lowe’s, tires for her and Kevin’s two vehicles, jewelry, clothing, auto parts and household items. The pair spent over $1800 at Walmart, $490 at Lowes, $522 at Goodys, $700 at Road Mart and $376 at Shoe Department, plus a few other shopping expenses.
The pair were booked into the Calhoun County Jail Feb. 26. Stout’s bond was set at $10,000 and she remained in custody at press time. Lindsey was released Feb. 27 after posting a $1500 bond.
