Local man linked to string of burglaries

A Blountstown man is facing numerous charges in Jackson County after leading authorities on a high speed chase.

Barry James Parish, Jr., 34, has been charged with aggravated fleeing/attempt to elude, possession of a weapon during a criminal offense, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Additional charges are pending from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. The suspect has been linked with multiple burglaries that occurred in the City of Graceville Thursday and Friday.

According to the Graceville Police Department, an officer attempted a traffic stop Friday on Parish’s vehicle after he was spotted throwing a large metal object out his car window toward the driver’s side of an officer’s patrol vehicle. Parish and a passenger in his Chevy Impala reportedly began behaving erratically and back up was requested from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. When the officer began stepping out of the patrol vehicle, Parish took off in his car, fleeing toward Campbellton on Hwy. 2.

A high speed pursuit ensued to Hwy. 231 and followed southbound to Hwy. 73 north of Marianna. JCSO deputies placed a spike strip along Hwy. 73, cutting Parish’s tires as he crossed. Once Parish’s vehicle came to a stop, he bolted and fled on foot. His passenger exited and surrendered to deputies on the scene.

K-9 units from Apalachee Correctional Institution and Jackson Correctional Institution were called on scene to assist in locating Parish. He was tracked to a residence nearby and was found in the yard. Parish allegedly resisted arrest with violence, but was subdued and taken into custody by deputies.
