Gun control is one hot topic in the nation, prompting our question of the week: What's your stand on gun control? Some lawmakers believe there should be mental health screenings before guns or ammunition are purchased. Others believe more laws regarding safeguarding weapons is in order. Some want assault rifles banned. Where do you stand? Please post comments on our website or email to news@thecountyrecord.net
First, in a nation of almost 315 million citizens, however heinous an act of an individual may be, it does not reflect the propensity of the rest of the population. I am satisfied with the current gun laws. Sure, some people may buy a gun legally and then go off the deep end, and some may get one illegally and do the same thing. My point is that with this many people things are going to happen sometimes. Also, this is huge political issue. To be up front I consider myself a liberal. That being said, I recognize the fact that I always hold that the government has no place in my personal business. To all the other liberals out there, it's a two way street. Without going long in my post, consider the things that you wish the government would stay out of and leave gun policy alone. Idiots kill people and other idiots legislate for the sake of legislation. No matter what law is passed to limit guns, these things will take place from time to time. School security should be looked at and updated. While a noble and symbolic gesture, an unarmed, off duty marine standing outside a school is not the answer to major security problems.
