Gerald Douglas “Doug” Peacock, 74, of Blountstown, passed over peacefully Friday, Dec. 7, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, surrounded by his loved ones.

Doug was born Oct. 4, 1938, in Pensacola. He grew up in Blountstown and dearly loved playing football for the fighting Tigers. A graduate of the BHS Class of 1956, Doug joined the U.S. Air Force, serving at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia, as well as in Ontario, Canada. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Joyce Marler. Doug became a regional supervisor in the finance industry, working for Aetna and Avco in Atlanta, Houston and throughout Mississippi. He returned to Blountstown in 1976 and owned Doug’s Gulf Station. He survived the tornado of 1979 that destroyed the business. Doug worked for Rysco Shipyard and Charla Chevrolet for many years, making some lifelong friends at both places.

Greeting Doug when he arrived in heaven were many loved ones and friends that passed before him, to include his parents, J. Walter and Estelle Peacock; his birth mother, Agnes Peacock Diamond; his father-in-law, Alton Fraser; and his beloved dogs, Jim, Buffy and Peanut, that he cherished as members of his family.

Left behind with many memories of love and laughter are his wife of 27 years, Joyce Peacock; his daughters, Kelli Peacock Dunn and her husband, Jason, of Blountstown, and Kim Peacock Jackson and her husband, Jay, of Sneads; his son, Dave, and his wife, Marlene, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario; sister, Gayle Peacock Gallagher, of Franklin, Tennessee; brother, Jerry Peacock, and his wife, Valerie, of Tallahassee; half-sisters, Cheryl Randolph and her husband, Sherman, of Columbia, Tennessee, and Carol Weeks and her husband, Van, of Pensacola; six grandchildren, Jake and Jordan Jackson, Scott and Kelly Dunn, Jamie and Dustin Mowat; his mother-in-law, Ruth Fraser, of Blountstown; Danny Hassig, a former “Doug’s Gulf” boy who he considered a son; his beloved dogs, Cowboy and Dixie; and many treasured family members and friends.

A memorial service is planned Monday, December 10, at 6 p.m. at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Doug’s love for animals, donations may be made in his memory to Partners for Pets, a no-kill animal shelter (4011 Maintenance Dr., Marianna, FL 32448). If you have room in your home and heart, please consider adopting a stray dog or a shelter pet in Doug’s memory. Donations to the Salvation Army, an organization he dearly loved and served, would also be a fitting tribute to his memory.

All arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (ph. 674-2266).
