Calhoun County Extension Director

Our careers with the Calhoun County IFAS Extension Service are very diverse, and one of the most rewarding things we do is coordinate the selection of the Outstanding Farm Family of the Year. Calhoun County is blessed with a rich farming history, and we have been presenting this award for over 55 years. Each year, Farm Families are honored locally, and by the North Florida Fair.

The Outstanding Farm Family of the Year Award is given to a family whose pride, dedication, and devotion to farming, is a way of life. These qualities are also reflected every day by their interactions with family, community, and colleagues.

This year’s 2009 Outstanding Farm Family is the Steve “Beaver” and Michelle Yoder Family! They were presented the award Thursday night at the Calhoun County Farm Bureau Banquet.

The Yoders raise cattle, peanuts, soybeans, and corn. They are grounded in a proud farming heritage, of which other family members are previous Farm Family recipients. In addition, Steve was selected as the 2009 Young Peanut Farmer of the Year.

Steve “Beaver” Yoder sees farming as a unique blend of tradition and technology. He encourages young farmers to find a mentor, and to expand their education and skills. He feels it is important to learn about all aspects of farming, from field to market.

Join us in congratulating the Steve and Michelle Yoder Family!
