A Thanksgiving miracle came early for Liberty County man and his friend who are fortunate to be alive after a single vehicle crash in Leon County over the weekend.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jaret Ammons, 30, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Cody Rhames, 24, of Quincy. The pair were reportedly westbound on State Road 20 near Luther Hall just before 11:30 p.m. when Rhames reportedly fell asleep at the wheel of his 2002 Ford Ranger.
The pickup traveled through the eastbound lane and left the roadway to the south. The truck continued westbound, with the front right of the vehicle striking a tree. The vehicle then overturned an unknown amount of times before striking a wooden post and a cable post.
Both Ammons and Rhames were taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Both men were wearing seatbelts and authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The accident was investigated by Trooper J.M. Beauford. The Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS, and Leon County Fire and Rescue assisted on scene.
