The Blountstown Tigers went to the air Friday night at Bowles Field before a great homecoming crowd to defeat Sneads 21-0 and improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district play. The Tigers will travel to Marianna Friday night for another non-district game against another tough opponent.
“Offensively we were able to throw the ball against Sneads and did some good things,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday. “We still had some inconsistency on the line, but overall we played pretty good.”
Quarterback Hunter Jordan sustained an ankle injury late in the second quarter and only saw action on the first series of the second half. Dylon Lee relieved Jordan in the second half and did a good job for the Tigers. Jordan was checked out in Tallahassee Monday and only had an ankle sprain and should be back in action against Marianna.
“Marianna has a pretty good team this year,” Jordan noted. “They beat Liberty County a few weeks ago and suffered their first loss last week to East Gadsden for their 5-1 record.”
Jordan praised his defensive unit for playing probably their best game of the season. “We held them to 44 yards rushing on 37 attempts and completed 1 of 6 passes for 11 yards.”
Corin Peterson intercepted two Sneads passes, the games only two turnovers.
The Tigers got their first score midway the first period when Jordan passed to Ryan Hathcox who raced 31 yards for a touchdown. Andrew Bennett’s point after kick was good and the Tigers were on top to stay, 7-0.
Less than four minutes later, Jordan found Hathcox wide open for 46 yards and another touchdown. Bennett’s kick gave the Tigers a 14-0 lead that stood to halftime. Sneads could not move the ball against the Tiger defense.
A Jordan bomb of 68 yards to Brian Middlebrooks set up the Tigers’ final score, a 39 yard pass to Roosevelt Martin in the back of the endzone. Bennett kicked the PAT for a 21-0 Tiger lead.
Jordan completed 6 of 7 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Hathcox had two catches, both touchdowns. Middlebrooks, Martin, Alex Mayorga and Bobby Andrews each had one reception.
Javakiel Brigham led the Tigers on the ground gaining 60 yards on 11 carries. Andrews added 15 on 4 carries, followed by Jordan with 14 yards on 4 attempts.
Defensively for the Tigers, Brigham was the leader with 3 solo tackles, and 13 assists. Hathcox was in on 13 tackles including one sack. Corin Peterson had a big night with two interceptions and was in on 10 tackles. Jonathan Leath was also in on 10 tackles. Dewayne Larramore was in on 8 tackles followed by Jordan with 7.
Shon Peterson and Anthony Wyrick were in on 6 tackles. Malac Johnson, Bobby Andrews, Brett Bozeman, Roosevelt Martin, CJ Hiers, and Christian Pierce were also in on defensive plays for the Tigers.
