Rae Palmer Summers Shuler, 83, of Bristol, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012, in her home.
She was born and raised in Liberty County among a large and extended family. She moved only once from Liberty County to Tallahassee, Florida, where she attended Florida State University and earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. She married Samuel Roy Shuler, Jr. on November 5, 1949. They were devoted to each other for the next 64 years, made their home in Liberty County, and remained there all of their lives. She retired from the Liberty County School Board with over 40 years of dedicated service. While there, she taught home economics and many other subjects to help educate the students of Liberty County High School.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Ray Summers; her mother, Tina Palmer Summers; and one son, Robert Eugene Shuler.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Roy Shuler, Jr.; two daughters, Dorothea Laquarria Stoltzfus and Tina Rae Goodman; two sons, Samuel Roy Shuler III and his wife, Jill Shuler, and John Dussia Shuler and his wife, Jennifer Shuler, all of Bristol. She is survived by one brother, John Jacob Summers, of Bristol. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Bristol, Florida, where she was a member. Interment followed in Lake Mystic Baptist Cemetery.
