The 2012 Blountstown Tigers traveled to Wewa last Thursday night for their pre-season classic against the Gators and won handily, 33-14. For the Tigers, it was the first time on a field with lines since practice started with all the recent rain.

“We played pretty well in Wewa, but we’ve got to play much better this week against Holmes County at Bowles Field,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday. “They won 10 games last year and their district title and return 15 seniors. They beat us 15-6 last year and beat Liberty County in the playoffs. It should be a good ball game,” Jordan noted.

The Tigers may be without the services of two starting offensive linemen. Junior guard Jay Williams (270) and Junior guard C.J. Hires (190) suffered leg injuries in Wewa and were to be examined this week.

“We went into Wewa wanting to run the ball and play defense and did both pretty well,” Jordan pointed out. Although no stats were available, the Tigers clearly dominated on offense.

Senior fullback Bobby Andrews scored the Tigers first touchdown from two yards out. In the second quarter, Junior quarterback Hunter Jordan (6’4”, 235) scored from the four and the Tigers led 14-6 at halftime.

Soph. tailback Corin Peterson scored on a 6 yard run in the third period and Freshman Shon Peterson picked up a fumble and raced 25 yards for another Tiger score.

In the fourth period, Soph. Anthony Wyrick scored on a short run. Junior Andrew Bennett kicked 3 of 4 extra points. The Tigers took a knee following their final score.

Offensively the Tigers are much bigger this season on the offensive line and have returning talent at quarterback, runningback and
receiver positions.

Jordan will be starting at quarterback for his second year. Junior Javakiel Brigham (175) will be the starting tailback for the Tigers.

Bobby Andrews (160) will be the starting fullback. Corin Peterson will see action at tailback and Soph. Alex Mayorga will see action at fullback.

Junior Tanner Peacock, Junior Josh Taylor, Senior Ryan Hathcox, and Senior Roosevelt Martin will see action as receivers.

Soph. Trip Taylor and Junior Brett Bozeman will share duties at tight end.

Junior Tommy Futch (265) will be at center with Jay Williams and C.J. Hires as guards. Senior Austin Capps (255) and Junior Cole Taylor (280) will be at the tackle positions.

Defensively for the Tigers, Taylor, Williams, Capps and Senior Christian Pierce will see action at tackle.

At defensive end for the Tigers will be Tripp Taylor, Ryan Hathcox and Soph. Jonathan Leath.

Anchoring the Tiger defense at linebacker will be Hunter Jordan, Javakiel Brigham, Soph. Dewayne Larramore (200), and C.J. Hires.

Tanner Peacock and Josh Taylor will be at the corner position and Soph. Dylan Lee and Corin Peterson will share duties at the safety position.

Hunter Jordan will handle the punting duties.

This should be another exciting season of Blountstown Tiger football. The Tigers will face Holmes County Friday night at Bowles Field and will host Chipley the following Friday night. Come out and support the Tigers.
