A Sneads couple was airlifted to a Tallahassee hospital following a boating accident on the Apalachicola River near the Ocheesee Landing Sunday.

According to Stan Kirkland of the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), around 5:30 p.m., Gary McIntosh, 56, and his wife, Laurie McIntosh, 44, were traveling at a speed of approximately 70 mph down river near Ocheesee Landing on an 18-foot racing vessel when a steering cable snapped, causing the vessel to abruptly turn. Both individuals were thrown from the vessel and injured. The couple’s son was riding down river behind them and pulled them from the water. Neither were wearing a life jacket.

Calhoun County EMTs transported the couple to a nearby ball field on CR 286, where they were life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The vessel is being held by FWC investigators pending completion of the accident investigation.
