Calhoun County will be well represented at the state weight lifting finals in Kissimmee Friday with six athletes from Blountstown High and five from Altha School competing.

“We had five regional winners that automatically got in and had one more selected from the state wide pool,” says BHS Coach Greg Jordan.

Hunter Jenks qualified at third place in the state 1A and Debarus Colvin in eighth in the 129 lb. class. Ranked first in their classes are Jawon Mosley in the 139 class, Chris Byrne in the 154 class, and Ryan Hathcox in the 183 class. Chaz Fain is fourth in the 169 class.

“Last year, the Tigers surprised some people and came in second in the state in class 1A,” Coach Jordan remarks. “Five of the six qualifiers for us are returners and bring experience to the state meet. We look forward to the state meet and wish all the lifters good luck.”

Coach Jordan extends his appreciation to everyone that came out and supported their fundraiser Friday morning. A special thanks to Ramsey's Piggly Wiggly and Harvey's for their donations.

Representing Altha are Ronnie Tucker, Jordan Lawton, Trevor Wriston, Anthony Gratz and Caleb Chew. These Wildcats will compete against the best lifters in the state.

“Four of the Altha boys are ranked in the medals with Ronnie Tucker being ranked first in the 119 weight class,” says Coach Robbie Smith. “It should be an exciting day!”

Watch for results in next week’s paper.
