It’s been one exciting week for the Altha Wildcats as they were edged in a close one by Graceville, then defeated R.F. Munroe and Wewa.

The Cats traveled to Graceville last Tuesday for a district game that turned out to be a nail biter. “We played pretty well,” says Coach Warren Roberts. “We had a three-point lead with a minute and a half to go and ended up losing by four. We’ve lost to them twice, both close games - once by two at the buzzer and once by four.”

Altha’s Will Rogers was the star with eight three-pointers in the first half and a game total of 27 points. Kent Rogers followed with 10. Jacob Warner and Zac Morris brought in four points each. Colby Barrentine and P.J. Iler chipped in two points a piece.

The J.V. won a thrilling game against Graceville in overtime, 25-23. Jay Fielder led the J.V. with 13 points.

The Wildcats hosted Munroe Thursday and defeated them, 55-36. Leading scorer was Kent Rogers with 17. Will Rogers followed with 14. Warner had 12, Iler had 11, and Anthony Young added one.

In J.V. action, the Cats also came out on top, 42-10.

Friday night brought Wewa to town for a big district game. “Here again, Will came out in the first half and hit eight three-pointers,” says Coach Roberts. “For the game he had 34 points.”

Following was his brother Kent with 20, Barrentine with six, Warner and Iler four points each.

“That was a big win for us,” Coach Roberts remarks. “It puts us at 8-8 overall and 4-5 in our district. We’ve won eight out of our last 10 games.”

The J.V. lost a tough won to Wewa, 45-32. “They were up at halftime, but just had a tough second half,” says Coach Roberts. The J.V. record is 10-6.

Leading for the J.V. were Justin Waldorff, Fielder and Corey Barton with eight points each. Kyler Dew had six. Nick Young added two.

The Cats hosted Vernon in a district game Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). They will host Bethlehem in the homecoming game Friday with J.V. at 6 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:30. The boys travel to Tallavana Monday, then Cottondale on Tuesday for a district match up.
