Robert D. "Bob" Jones, 83, of Altha died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

He was born in Randolph, Alabama, retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service. Robert lived in the Bethlehem Community of Holmes County for several years before moving to Calhoun County 13 years ago. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church near Bonifay. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katrine Golden Jones in 2005.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Jones and wife, Jean of Caryville; one daughter, Joyce Ann Varnum and husband, Jim of Altha; brothers, Buddy Jones of Atlanta, Ga and Bobby Jones of Columbus, Ga; one sister, Mary Lou Wood of Opelika, Al; five grandchildren, Jessica, Elizabeth and Clay Jones, Trey Varnum and Brandie Varnum Simerson and husband, Matthew; three great grandchildren, Summer Babb, Joseph Babb and Katie Lyn Simerson.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Altha Church of God with Rev. Allen Nichols officiating. Burial followed in Sunny Hill Pentecostal Church Cemetery near Altha with full military rites.
