OBITUARY - Atkinson

Mrs. Zerlene Iona (Shuler) Atkinson, 88, of Bristol, FL, passed away early Thursday morning, September 29, 2011, in Blountstown, FL.
Zerlene was born on September 28, 1923, in Bristol and, after graduating from high school, moved to north Georgia to live with her aunt Zellie. There she met the love of her life, Hoss Atkinson. They were married for 63 years and had four sons. Hoss and Zerlene lived in Toccoa, GA, and moved back to Liberty County in 1983 to enjoy their retirement. Zerlene was a member of Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoss Atkinson; son, Arthur Dave Atkinson; and a brother, O.B. Shuler.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Thomas Atkinson, and fiancée, Jeri Rose, of Toccoa, GA, Eric Stephen Atkinson and fiancée, Donna Reddick, and Hal Atkinson, all of Bristol; one brother, Moses Shuler and his wife, Deloris, of Bristol; one sister, Erma Revell, of Graceville, FL; two grandsons, Seth Thomas Atkinson and Micah Richie Atkinson, both of Palatka, FL; and one great-grandson, Mason Thomas Atkinson, of Palatka, FL.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, at 3 pm (EDT) from the graveside at Lake Mystic Cemetery in Bristol with Reverend Clyde Roberts officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends, Friday, September 30, from 5 until 7 pm (EDT) at Peavy Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (ph. 674-2266).
