Blountstown will host Freeport Friday night Tigers fall to Chipley, 16-7

For the second straight week the Blountstown Tigers had opportunities to score and possibly win but didn’t get the job done.

Blountstown led after the first quarter 7-0 against a big Chipley Tiger team and the game was tied at halftime. Chipley scored a touchdown in the third quarter and added a field goal in the fourth to claim the hard hitting battle, 16-7.

A week earlier the Tigers lost by the same margin to Holmes County, 15-6. Now at 0-2, the Tigers return home to host Freeport (1-1) who defeated South Walton last week.

“Our offensive line played better this week and showed signs of improvement,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday. “Now we’ve got to deal with some injuries that will limit what we can do on offense. We just don’t have the depth and experience to deal with many injuries,” Jordan noted.

Runningback Jawon Mosley reinjured his ankle and will be held out against Freeport. Lineman and kicker Kenya Baker, Stedman Dawson and Bobby Andrews are all questionable for the Freeport game.

“We’ll probably have to stay in our spread offense this week and hope we can get some guys well before our district game next week with Port St. Joe. Defensively, our kids are playing hard and not giving up.

We’re still making some costly mistakes at the wrong time,” Jordan added.

Chipley’s ground game kept the Tigers offense off the field for most of the game. Chipley rushed the ball 51 plays for 247 yards and did not attempt a pass in the game. Blountstown had four possessions in the first half, one in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter. The possession in the third quarter ended with an interception and the possession in the fourth quarter ended with a fumble.

Quarterback Hunter Jordan had a good night passing connecting on 5 of 8 for 123 yards with his long completion of 69 yards to Jawon Mosley setting up Mosley’s 2 yard touchdown in the first period. Javakiel Brigham rushed for 60 yards on 9 carries for the Tigers.

Defensively, Brigham was all over the field for 18 tackles. Patrick Pitts followed with 12 while Corin Peterson and Anthony Williams were in on 11 each. Austin Capps was in on 10 tackles and Tommy Futch contributed 6.
