In a shocking story that developed over the past five days, a Blountstown police officer has been dismissed due to meth use.
Chief Rodney Smith has confirmed to The County Record that Ofc. Caleb Tolbert has been terminated. Information was received that Tolbert, who was on probationary status, had been using meth. When confronted, Tolbert allegedly admitted to using meth, advised he had a problem and needed help.
After receiving the tip about Tolbert's alleged meth use, Chief Smith said he opted to confront the officer immediately, as opposed to conducting an undercover drug investigation, since Tolbert was due to report for work within a few hours and would be behind the wheel of a patrol car.

I realize this story is very shocking not to mention embarrassing to the BPD and citizens of Blounstown...however, I would like to know if Ofc Caleb Tolbert may have jeopardize any arrest he may have made regarding meth use among other users who have been arrested.

I think that people need to understand why people take the route of drugs and being in a small town such as Blountstown, with little to no extra-curricular activities or social settings, it's breeding this type of behavior. This isn't new behavior, it's just becoming more exploited. Blountstown should see this as a chance to cultivate a positive learning grounds for children coming up around such horrible drug use.

To the citizens of Blountstown:
The long arm of drug abuse and dependency can reach out and grab anyone, no one is immune. The best thing we can do is not judge but reach out to people who are generally good, but sometimes make poor choices. I would appreciate it if the citizens do the latter and pray for those that are effected by the disease of drug addiction. Good luck Caleb, and keep your head up. Always forward!

Why was the officer just fired? If a suspected crimnal wanted to turn his life around and seek help, and asked the local police to help him. With also a statment of confession, would they be charged with a crime? I think if your going to uphold the law, the same would apply to everyone. This doesn't mean to throw the book at him, but allow him to pay his dues. After all your guilty until proven innocent.

The community needs to stop making excuses for people making poor choices. Parents and citizens need to be responsible for teaching and educating the community about the impact of drug usage. If there isn't enough social activities in Blounstown...then start making your voices heard!!...by going to townhall meetings and speaking to your elected officials about your concerns in the community...after all, you voted them into office.
