Local schools celebrate ‘A’ grades

Three Calhoun County schools are celebrating “A” grades issued by the Florida Department of Education.

Blountstown Elementary, Blountstown Middle and Carr School all received their “A” report cards last week. Grades for Altha and Blountstown High will be coming soon. High school grades are released on a different schedule and, since Altha is a PreK through 12th grade school, the entire Altha score is delayed until high school scores are available.

Both BMS and Carr maintained their “A” grades from the previous year and BES improved one letter grade from a “B” to an “A” this year.

Liberty County is also celebrating with Tolar improving to an “A” from a “C” last year and Hosford maintaining an “A”.

These grades will translate into cash for local schools. The Florida School Recognition Program rewards schools that have sustained high student performance or demonstrated substantial improvement in student performance. Schools that receive an “A,” or improve at least one performance grade from the previous year, are eligible to earn an additional $70 per student.

Congratulations to all the students, teachers and faculty of the Calhoun County School District. In Memory of Mrs. Elanore Brown and Mrs. Williams my all time favorite teachers.
