Marianna man sentenced to 94 months for sexual battery

A Marianna man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Hosford over a year ago was sentenced in Liberty County court this week.

Judge Jonathan Sjostrom ordered Zachary Ray “Red” McCormick, 19, to serve 94 and a half months in state prison for sexual battery.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was at a surprise party when she met McCormick. The girl said she went for a ride with him, he stopped in the road, told her she was pretty, then attempted to kiss her. She reportedly told him “no” and pushed him away. The girl went on to allege that McCormick raped her.

Once the girl went to authorities, McCormick denied having sex with her. However, DNA found on the girl’s clothing matched McCormick, leading to his arrest.
