The Blountstown City Council voted 4-1 during a special meeting Thursday night to bypass the interview process of the top five police chief candidates and hire their number one ranked applicant: Rodney Smith.
For the past six weeks, Smith, who has been a major at the BPD for many years, has been acting as interim police chief.
