Former BPD officer accused of rape

A Calhoun County native and former Blountstown police officer is facing several charges in South Georgia after being accused of molesting his stepdaughter.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Bob Sizemore, 50, of Bainbridge, GA, on charges of rape, aggravated sexual battery, and child molestation. Sizemore has been employed with the Chattahoochee Police Department since November, but was fired Saturday after the case came to light.

According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Sizemore’s 13-year-old stepdaughter was at home with him during the evening hours Friday while her mother was working. In the early morning hours on Saturday, the girl told her mother Sizemore had molested her. The mother contacted a deputy who is a family friend and then made her husband leave their residence. Sizemore went to the Jameson Inn in Bainbridge at 3 a.m. and, around midday Saturday, began making threats to kill himself.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to the Jameson Inn and hotel guests were evacuated. Due to Sizemore’s law enforcement training and the belief that he had weapons, the SWAT team was called in to assist.

“I also called the Chattahoochee police chief because I didn’t know [Sizemore] and I was going to have to negotiate with him,” Major Wendell Cofer of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office tells The County Record. “I didn’t know what he would respond to.”

Major Cofer made contact with Sizemore by phone and he surrendered about 20 minutes later.

“We could not interview him due to his medical condition at the time,” says Major Cofer.

Sizemore had a personal handgun in his possession when he was apprehended. He was taken to an area hospital, then transferred to an undisclosed location for medical treatment.

The Chattahoochee Police Department issued a statement Monday advising that Sizemore has been terminated. Prior to his employment in Chattahoochee, Sizemore worked as a correctional officer with the Florida Department of Corrections from August 2007 to July 2008. He was an officer with the Blountstown Police Department from October 1982 to November 1992.
