Citizens planning to attend School Board meetings will have to arrive an hour earlier.
At last Tuesday night’s meeting, Danny Ryals (district 1) made the motion, it was seconded by Tim Smith (district 3) and passed with a 4-1 vote to change the meeting time from 5 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Danny Hassig (district 5) cast the vote against the measure.
The decision was made to move the meeting time so School Board Attorney David House could be available for the entire meeting and still make the City Council meeting at 6 p.m. the same evening.
“We don’t need to organize around ourselves, we need to organize around the citizens in this county,” Hassig tells The County Record. “Some of them have to work and even if they don’t have anything to say at the meeting, they should be able to come and observe.”
Kelly King (district 2) suggested moving the meeting date to the second Monday as opposed to the second Tuesday. Hassig agreed, but no action was taken. According to the minutes, the vote stands to hold meetings at 4 p.m. on the second Tuesday and revisit the issue at the organizational meeting in December.
