Mabel Eileen Troyer Schlabach passed away on May 5, 2012, at her home in Greenwood DE, at the age of 75.
She was born on August 27, 1936, at Applecreek, Ohio, to the late Dan and Ella Troyer. She married Evangel Schlabach on November 17, 1956. She lived in Greenwood DE, all of her married life except from 1982 to 1997 when she and her husband resided in Blountstown, FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Sommers, and her husband, Wayne, of Greenwood DE, her son, Verle Schlabach, and his wife, Sandy, of Greenwood, DE, her daughter, Melody Smith, and her husband, Paul, of Blountstown, FL, and her son, Dan Schlabach, and his wife, Yolanda, of Greenwood DE. She has 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Loyal Troyer, of Unity, WI, her brother, Larry Troyer, of Lincoln DE, and her sister, Joyce Booth, of Wooster, OH.
She was preceded in death by Evangel Schlabach, her husband of nearly 51 years, and her brothers, Owen Troyer, Verton Troyer, Ivan Troyer, and Daniel Troyer Jr., and a sister, Erma.
Calling hours will be at the Greenwood Mennonite Church, Tuesday, May 8 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A private burial service will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 9 and a memorial service will be held at 3 pm at Greenwood Mennonite Church. John David Swartzentruber and Kevin Yoder will be officiating.

Jeanette Waldron, known as Nanny by her loved ones, passed away May 6, 2012, in Marianna, FL.
Born on February 1, 1933, in Brighton, Highlands County, FL, she moved to Altha, FL, in 2003. She was a homemaker, School Board of Highlands Co. bus operator for 17 years, and devoted, loving, nurturing "Nanny" to 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She worshiped at the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth Waldron, from Sweetwater in Hardee Co, FL. They were married on December 24, 1952. They had four children, Barbara F. Guy (Okeechobee), Darryl L. Waldron (Sneads), Sandra S. Evans (Lake Placid), Carlene C. Varnes (Venus).

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lacey and Kenny Leitner (Lake Placid), Joshua "Tater" Varnes (Venus), Kenzie, Luke and John Waldron (Altha/Sneads). Family lunch will be provided at Carlene Varnes’ residence, 350 Shepard Rd, Venus, immediately following the service.

George was born on February 26, 1918, in Calhoun County and had lived here all of his life. He, along with his wife, Jeanette, owned and operated Pelt’s Department Store in Blountstown from 1936 unit 1972. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army. George was an avid golfer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Blountstown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Pelt, and a son, George Pelt, III.
Survivors include one son, Mark Pelt, and his wife, Denise, of Perry, FL; two daughters, Patricia Pelt Hodges and her husband, Jack, of Fanning Spring, FL, and Phyllis Bailey and her husband, Greg, of Blountstown; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Hosford and a former member of Blountstown Assembly of God Church in Blountstown. Susie was a member of the Older Wiser Leaders (OWL) at Corinth Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed attending Hosford Senior Citizens Association.
Susie was preceded in death by her husbands, W.R. Wood and Ransom J. Mayo; daughter, Marie Mayo Dykes; grandson, Danny Langston; and a brother, George Taft.

Brooks was born on September 10, 1986, in Tallahassee, FL. She received her GED from the Leon County School System and attended and received a certificate in Forestry from Lake City Community College. Brooks inherited a strong love of forestry from her Papa Hayes and always loved being in the great outdoors. She loved the family camp on the Chipola River and the family condo on the Gulf. Friends will easily remember Brooks by her quick wit, her contagious laughter and everlasting loyalty.
She is survived by her mother, Nancy Hayes Breslin; her sister, Elizabeth; her uncle and aunt, Burke and Eva Hayes; her aunt and uncle, Brooks Anne and Kenny Meierdierks; her uncle and aunt, George and Cindy Breslin. She is also survived by her cousins, Brooks and Katie Hayes, Marianne and Philip McMillan, Charlie and Annie Meierdierks.

Ms. Patricia Kate (Smith) Bowden, 70, of Altha, FL, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, in Panama City, FL.
Pat was born on May 22, 1941, in Blountstown, FL, and had lived in Calhoun County for most of her life. She retired from the Department of Revenue with the State of Florida with over 20 years of service. Pat also worked for the Department of Children and Family Services in Blountstown for a number of years. She was a 1959 graduate of Blountstown High School, a 1962 graduate of Chipola College and attended West Florida University in Pensacola. Pat was an avid Florida State Seminole fan; she loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; but most of all, she truly loved her family. Pat was an active Cub Scout den mother for a number of years and she helped with the Boy Scouts. She was one of the first women to receive the Silver Beaver award.

Survivors include one son, Derry Bowden, of Altha; one daughter, Karla Nichols, and her husband, Hank, of Clarksville; three brothers, George Smith, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Orange Park, FL, Roger Smith of Blountstown, and Rodney Smith and his wife, Tina, of Blountstown; one sister, Kathy Johnson, and her husband, Sammy, of Chattahoochee; four grandchildren, Heather Varnum of Bristol, Nicholas Hansford and girlfriend, Summer Attaway, of Blountstown, Laine Nichols and Hayden Nichols, both of Clarksville; three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cadence and Ridge, all of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 1, at 11 am (CDT) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown. The family will receive friends Monday, April 30, from 6 pm until 8 pm (CDT) at Peavy Funeral Home.

Pat was born on May 22, 1941, in Blountstown, FL, and had lived in Calhoun County for most of her life. She retired from the Department of Revenue with the State of Florida with over 20 years of service. Pat also worked for the Department of Children and Family Services in Blountstown for a number of years. She was a 1959 graduate of Blountstown High School, a 1962 graduate of Chipola College and attended West Florida University in Pensacola. Pat was an avid Florida State Seminole fan; she loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; but most of all, she truly loved her family. Pat was an active Cub Scout den mother for a number of years and she helped with the Boy Scouts. She was one of the first women to receive the Silver Beaver award.

Mary Whitesides Mann of Eastpoint, Florida passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the age of 87.
Mary was born in Hickory Grove, South Carolina, moved to Port St. Joe, Florida in 1990, and moved to Eastpoint last year to be with her daughter. She earned a doctorate degree and was a daycare operator for Nanny’s Daycare in Port St. Joe for seventeen years. She was a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Port St. Joe where she taught Missionettes and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Watt Mann, Jr.; her parents, Horace Madison and Bessie Blanche (Pratt) Whitesides; and a son-in-law, Don Adkison.
She is survived by a son, John Mann and his wife, Cindy of Wewahitchka, Florida; two daughters, Sylvia Adkison of Eastpoint and Sandra Hanna and her husband, Dannie of Blythewood, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. ET, Friday, April 27, at Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Port St. Joe with Reverend Dave Fernandez and Reverend James Wiley officiating.

OBITUARY - Leonard
Charles Denis Leonard, Sr., age 86, passed away on March 30, 2012, in St. Augustine after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Panama City and raised in Blountstown, he was a fourth generation Floridian.
After graduating from the University of Florida in 1949, “Charlie” and his bride Artie Flanders moved to South Florida where he worked in management for Southern Bell for 35 years. An avid fisherman and Gator fan, he was also active in community service. Organizations he was involved in included Methodist Men, Telephone Pioneers, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, UF Alumni Association (Charter Member) and United Way, often presiding over local chapters where they lived in Dade and Palm Beach Counties. He was also a veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy. In 2001 Charlie and Artie moved to St. Johns to be near family.
He was predeceased by his parents John Edwin and “Maggie” Self Leonard and in 2003 by his son who was named after him. He is survived by his wife Artie Leonard; brother Dan Leonard (Eloise); daughters Carolyn Love (Doug) and Marsha Bailey (Roger); grandchildren Shelley Baldwin (Mark), Scott Love (Jennifer), Heather Casteele, Mary Lee Lemonde (Adam), Jared Bailey and Jordan Bailey (Shannon); and ten great-grandchildren.

Thelma Louise Sanders, 78, of Hosford, Florida, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born in Greensboro, Florida, to the late Kinch and Della (Durden) Arnold. She and her late husband, Eric T. Sanders, who she married April 3, 1953, lived in various parts of the United States as his job required at the time, but returned home to Liberty County after the birth of their daughter, Joy. From that time, Louise was a homemaker and also worked for several years as a teacher’s aide at Hosford School. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church of Hosford.
She was one of the happiest people on the planet, and always had a ready smile for everyone she met. The care and well-being of her family was always her number one priority and she enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing for them. Louise loved music and singing and her family was used to her singing from the time she woke in the morning until she retired at night. She had many health issues over the past few years, some of which cost her her legs, but even through all of that she never lost her smile. She lived the last three years at Blountstown Health and Rehabilitation where she was a “social butterfly” wheeling around in her motorized wheelchair visiting with other friends both old and new. Even after the loss of her legs, she stated many times that she didn’t know the purpose that God had for her without her legs, but if she could be an example to someone else that you should never give up or feel sorry for yourself, then she would be the example that God wanted her to be.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Sanders Hartsfield, of Crawfordville, Florida; two step-daughters, Glyndell Perri of Tallahassee and Jackie Hallman of Graceville, Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Eustas Arnold, of Telogia, Florida; two sisters, Elma Arnold Kent of Branford, Florida, and Sarah Arnold “Boogie” Sauls and her husband, Bobby, of Abbeville, Alabama. She will be missed by a large family of cousins and a host of nieces and nephews who were all a very special part of her life; and also a very special friend, Marion Mercer, who was like a sister to her.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, April 25, at Corinth Baptist Church in Hosford with Kyle Peddie and Ken Hosford officiating. Interment will follow in Hosford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, April 24, at Corinth Baptist Church.
She will be greatly missed, but we know that we will walk with her again on golden streets one day.

Mr. Louis Edwin Strong, 96, of Blountstown, FL, went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning, April 16, 2012, in Blountstown.
Louis was born on April 12, 1916, in Hamden, Ohio, and had lived in Blountstown since 1976. He was a retired carpenter and a Veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Lee L. Strong and Florence B. Strong; his wives, Blanche L. (Turner) Strong and E. Darlene (Sharp) Strong; two sons, Karl W. Strong and David Strong, Sr.; one daughter, Judith L. Irish; his stepfather, Forrest B. Morgan; and two brothers, George C. Strong and Lee S. Strong.
His love of singing started in the 5th grade when he was picked to sing in the high school operetta called “Old King Cole” as one of the “Fiddlers Three.” He continued singing lead parts in operettas all thru high school. He played the French horn in the high school marching band and in the orchestra. He was very active in his church and loved singing. The first 32 years of his life, he was a member of the Church of Christ. For the next 30 years, he was a member and song director in the church of the Nazarene in Hillsdale, Michigan, Eustis, Florida, and Blountstown, Florida. He was a member of the Gulf Coast Community College-Community Chorus in 1987, 1988, and 1989.
Survivors include three sons, Louis E. Strong, Jr., Thomas W. Strong and John L. Strong, Sr.; three daughters, Delores L. Faircloth, Denise L. Horne and Patricia L. Davis; a stepdaughter, Carol L. Drews; and a stepson, Benjamin Dillon.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 20, at 10 am (CDT) from the graveside at Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown with Reverend Don Henderson officiating.

Susie Hatcher Morris, 65, of Blountstown, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012.
Susie was born in Gadsden, Alabama, but lived most of her life in Bristol. She was a graduate of Blountstown High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. She was a substitute teacher for Calhoun, Gulf, and Liberty County schools and also worked for several years for the Liberty County Public Library. She was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bristol and especially enjoyed working in the Genealogy Department of the library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hatcher; a son, Alan Hatcher; and her father, Haywood Henderson, and her mother, Tressie Naomi Henderson Clark.
She is survived by her husband, Julian Morris, of Grand Ridge; four sons, Mark Hatcher of White City, Larry Hatcher, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Wewahitchka, Timothy Hatcher of Kampala, Uganda, and Steven Hatcher of Panama City; a daughter, Melissa Amaya and her husband, Mario, of Bristol; ten grandchildren; brothers, Bill Henderson and his wife, Margaret, of Jacksonville and Lentz Henderson of and his wife, Geri, of Beverly Hills, Florida; and a sister, Rebecca Henderson, of Bristol.
