Donald Edward Smith, 71, of Blountstown, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in Tallahassee, FL.
Donald was born on August 4, 1943, in Blountstown and had lived here most of his life. He retired with the State of Florida working in Family and Children Services with 30 years of service. Donald was a 1962 graduate of Blountstown High School, received his AA Degree from Chipola College in Marianna and received his BA degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Henry Smith and his wife, Debbie, of Blountstown, and Charles D. (Frank) Smith of Blountstown; one sister, Voncille S. White, and her husband, Snooky, of Blountstown; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Blountstown High School will play Liberty County on Friday night at 7:30 pm cst following the girls at 4:30 pm and the J.V. at 6 pm. This will also serve as our pink game and senior night for basketball. We invite all who have either survived cancer or would like to remember someone who has passed from it to join us on Friday night by wearing pink. We will be recognizing survivors at half time. Please join us on this night.
Altha School is celebrating homecoming this week. Coronation was held Tuesday night in the Altha Gym with Aaron Young and Hannah Register (photo at left) crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Chosen 8th grade Prince and Princess were (right) Braedan Raper and Madison Boggs. The homecoming parade will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with the homecoming game against Wewa at 5:30 p.m. for J.V., followed by varsity at 7 p.m.
Harry Allen Lozon, Jr., 76, of Marianna, passed away Monday evening, January 12, 2015 at Jackson Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1938, in Montana and moved to Marianna in 1954 and had resided at Sunland Center for the past 30 years.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry A. Lozon, Sr. and Ruth A. Lozon; and a nephew, Peter D. Lee.
Mr. Lozon is survived by his sister, Ruth A. (Lozon) Lee Weidner and husband, Raymond, of Blountstown; a nephew, Gregory A. Lee, and family of San Jose, CA; a special friend, Betty Gallaway, of Marianna; and, most importantly, his extended family at Sunland. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Service of remembrance will be at 2 pm Friday, January 23, at Sunland United Chapel with Rev. Greg Roberts officiating. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The Blountstown City Council voted 4-1 at Tuesday night's special session to retain Police Chief Mark "Kipper" Mallory for another year. Councilman Ronnie Williams, Sr. cast the only no vote. The standing room only crowd applauded the decision to keep Mallory as chief. [Full Story »]
