The 2012 election season is starting with one candidate stepping forward.
Logan Barbee filed his letter of intent Tuesday morning to seek the Calhoun County School Superintendent post.
All county offices will be on the ballot this year.
Ruth Ray Howell of Blountstown passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the age of 95.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Blountstown and was a member of Blountstown First Baptist Church. She was founder of Calhoun-Liberty Abstract Company which she operated for seventy years. She was a graduate of Columbia County High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas C. and Mary (Peacock) Ray; her husband, Charlie Hix Howell; and a brother, Bill Ray.
Survivors include her son, Charles Ray Howell, of Blountstown; daughter, Nancy Mauldin; five grandchildren, Josh Mauldin, Lynn Walquist, Renee Jeppson, Sherri Shuler, and Ray Howell; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 31, in the Chapel at Adams Funeral Home with Reverend David Throckmorton officiating. Interment will follow in Boggs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00- 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Griswold, 84, of Altha, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in Altha.
Mary was born on March 12, 1927, in Belfast, Ireland, and had lived in Altha for past one year coming from Kissimmee, FL. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include one son, David Griswold, and his wife, Deborah, of Altha; three brothers, Dennis Kerr of Australia, David Kerr and Jimmy Kerr of Ireland; four Sisters, Dinah Gibney, Ester (Hessie) Hendron, Sadie Sinclair and Irene Cummins; four grandchildren, Ashley Whitfield, Jeremy Watford, David John Griswold, Jr. and Deana Griswold; and one great-grandchild, Ryan Hunter Whitfield.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 26, at 10 am (CST) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow Tuesday, December 27, at 10:15am (CST) at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

The Altha Wildcats celebrated a big win over Rocky Bayou Saturday night in the AHS Gym. The boys traveled to Vernon Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). The Cats are on Christmas break this week, but will be back in action Thursday, Dec. 29, when they travel to Blountstown.

Mr. Albert Sewell, 83, of Hosford, FL, passed away early Monday morning, December 19, 2011, in Blountstown, FL.
Albert was born on May 14, 1928, in Lake Wales, FL, and had lived in Liberty County for most of his life. He was retired heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Quincy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Faye Sewell, of Hosford; three sons, Glenn Sewell and his wife, Kathy, of Telogia, Clifford Jerome Sewell of Telogia and Adam Sewell of Bristol; three daughters, Tammy Edwards and her husband, Butch, of Sneads, Lisa Shuler and her husband, Milton, of Bristol, and Margie Soleimanibabadi of Tallahassee; one brother, R.D. Sewell, and his wife, Mary, of Hosford; two sisters, Mable Burke and Myrtle Pitts, both of Hosford; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, at 11:00 am (EST) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown with Reverend Tim Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in the Hosford Cemetery in Hosford. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 20, from 6 until 8 pm (EST) at Peavy Funeral Home.
