A former jail inmate has filed a federal lawsuit against Calhoun County Sheriff David Tatum and former Liberty County Sheriff Harrell Wood Revell, alleging they failed to protect her while she was behind bars.

Two Calhoun County investigators have been commended by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their work in helping the agency bust a major cocaine and marijuana ring in the panhandle.

Sheila Harrell Blackburn has filed her letter of intent to run for Calhoun County Supervisor of Elections. She will run with no party affiliation. Blackburn will face incumbent Margie Laramore (NPA) in November, along with the winner of the democratic primary between Sharon Chason and Sky Scott.
Mr. James Fredrick Pelling, 75, of Altha, FL, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, in Dothan, AL.
James was born on August 26, 1936, in Palatka, FL, and had lived in Altha since 1987, coming from Apopka, FL. He was a retired professional painter and was a member of Page Pond Assembly of God Church in Altha.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Pelling, of Altha; a son, James Robert Pelling, and his wife, Nancy Ann, of Defuniak Springs, FL; a daughter, Tonya Lynn Dilworth, and her husband, Quinn, of Houston, TX; a sister, Anastasia Hendrix, and her husband, Charles Andrew, of Altha; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, at 2 pm (CDT) at Page Pond Assembly of God Church with Reverend Carlton Baggett and Reverend Harold Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the New Shiloh Cemetery near Altha. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 3, from 6 until 8 pm (CDT) at Peavy Funeral Home.
