Calhoun County schools have announced open house dates for the upcoming school year. They are as follows:
Blountstown High School - Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Blountstown Middle School - Friday, Aug. 10, from 8 to 11 a.m.
Blountstown Elementary School - Friday, Aug. 10, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Altha School - Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Richard Eugene “Ricky” Hansford, 55, of Altha passed away Saturday, July 14, at his home.
Ricky was born in Marianna and had lived in Calhoun County most of his life. He was a line technician with Fairpoint Communications for 35 years and attended the Abe Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Harold Hansford.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Karen Hansford, of Altha; two sons, Kevin Hansford and his wife, Elizabeth, and Brian Hansford and his wife, Krystal; a daughter, Kayla Dalton, and her husband, Eddie, of Altha; his mother, Louvenia “L.V.” (Chason) Hansford; a brother, Terry Hansford, all of Altha; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 19, from the Abe Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverend Michael Morris and Reverend Dewayne Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunny Hill Cemetery near Altha.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, July 18, at the Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown.

Today (Monday, July 16) is the last day to register to vote in time for the primary election. Stop by the Calhoun County Supervisor of Elections office in the basement of the courthouse today by 4 p.m. if you are not registered to vote.
A Clarksville man was arrested in Jackson County Tuesday on drug charges.
Earl Robert Blackwell II, 45, has been charged with trafficking in Hydrocodone and possession of prescription pills without a prescription.
According to the Marianna Police Department, Blackwell was pulled over on Milton Avenue at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday for having inoperable tag lights. Blackwell gave consent to a search of his vehicle with seven Hydrocodone tablets found in an ashtray.
Blackwell was booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
