Ernie was a born again, saved child of God and of the Baptist faith. Ernie was born January 13, 1943, and raised in Cardiff, NJ, the youngest of six children. Ernie always liked to build things and tinker with things even as a child and was always into some type of mischief. After high school, Ernie joined the Army and was a helicopter mechanic with the 7th Calvary Army Aviation. In 1983, Ernie started his own palm tree business, with the help of his wife, and ran it until 2003. Ernie was a first responder and chaplain with the Carr-Clarksville VFD.
Ernie's first love was serving God. He was saved as a child and, as an adult, he spent many years teaching teenagers and young adults about God and filling in for several pastors. On August 19, 2012, he became an ordained minister and has continued to serve God in several ways. Ernie's next greatest love was his wife of 50 years, Hellon, and his family. He always loved being with his family and teaching his children and grandchildren how to build, tinker with and fix things.
Ernie was preceeded in death by his parents, William Franklin Poley and Alice Martha Sear Poley, of NJ; brothers, William Franklin Poley Jr. and Laurence George Poley, of NJ; and sisters, Doris Rose Poley Stewart of NJ and Mary Anna Poley Remley of TN.
