The Tigers will host Liberty County for a spring game on Thursday, May 20th. We enter our second week of spring practice with five days of practice this week.
We still have a lot of learning going on with the new position players that are trying to nail down starting positions this spring. On the offensive side of the ball our biggest challenge right now is replacing three starters on the offensive line, plus the tight end position. We basically had to start back at ground zero with plays and reteach everything we've been doing as far as plays go.
Returning starters on the offensive side of the ball include QB PJ Buggs, RBs Alexander Garrett and Jawon Mosley, receivers Paul Mosley and Ryan McIntyre. On the o-line Dowling Lee and Timmy Giradot are the lone returning starters. Some of the new names trying to find a starting position on the o-line are Patrick Pitts, Corey McClellan, Austin Capps and Anthony Williams and Anthony Curry at tight end. The offense will only be as good as the offensive line. This spring is a big rebuilding time for that group and the entire offense in general.
The players had a solid first week of practice and need an even better one this week. Next week I will talk a little about the defensive side of the ball and the new and returning players.
Plan to come out and eat before the spring game next Thursday. The football team will be selling pulled Boston butt plates with all the sides for $6. The game starts at 7:00 and the plates will be ready by 6:00. Pick up will be at the concession stand at the football field. You can see any football player or coach or call the front office at the high school to get tickets. We will have some plates to be bought at the game, but the majority will be pre sold. Hope to see you at the game! Go, Tigers!!!!
