The Blountstown Lady Tigers started off spring break on the diamond, losing to Vernon, 8-4.

Brittany Griffin took the loss on the mound. She led at bat with a double and a single. Anna Kelley and Brittney Brown had two singles each. Ambur Burch had a double. Singles were provided by Montoya Garrett, Lindsay Doyal, and Selena Williams.

“We had 10 hits in the game and left seven on the base. We scored two in the first and two in the fifth,” says Coach Bubba Johnson. “They only got six hits, we walked four in the first inning and struck out two in the first inning. I changed and brought in freshman Brittney Brown in the second inning after we gave up three hits. They only scored one run off her. She struck out six, walked two and hit one.”

The Tigers are now 3-8 in the district and 8-8 overall. “That pretty much means we are going to have to play the second place team in the district tournament,” Coach Johnson remarks.

In the J.V. game against Vernon, the Lady Tigers won 5-2. Courtney McFarland was the winning pitcher, giving up only four hits. She struck out four and hit one. “That was one of her best games of the year pitching,” says Coach Johnson.
At the plate, Kimberly Jenks and Kelsey Bontrager each had two singles. Lauren Blackburn had a double. Kassie Wood and Tiffany Abbott each added a single.

The J.V. record is now at 11-3-1.

The Lady Tigers took on Vernon at home Monday and Graceville Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). They will host Holmes County Thursday in a varsity only game at 6 p.m.
