A Wewahitchka woman was killed Sunday night when she was struck by a vehicle in Calhoun County.
Cherie L. Cantrell, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jessie L. Hawkins, 72, of Tallahassee, was behind the wheel of a 2002 Lincoln just after 7 p.m., traveling north on State Road 71. When Hawkins and his two passengers were just north of Clayton Shiver Road, a woman, later identified as Cantrell, walked in front of his vehicle and was struck.
Cantrell reportedly had a problem with her vehicle and had pulled onto the west shoulder of the highway just before the accident. She got out of her vehicle, walked into the southbound lane, then crossed into the northbound lane where she was hit by Hawkins’ vehicle.
Trooper Phillip Spaziante and Corporal C. Chapman are investigating the crash.
