A Blountstown woman was hospitalized after a two vehicle collision in Bay County Thursday that ended in one arrest.
Tammy T. Koonce, 37, was the passenger in a 1992 Nissan driven by Ernest L. Young, 42, of Plant City.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Young and Koonce were northbound on U.S. 231 about a mile south of Hudson Road around 5:40 p.m. when Elizabeth D. Chatoney, 50, of Southport, approached them from behind in a 2006 Mercedes at a high rate of speed. Chatoney reportedly tried to swerve around them and struck the left rear of their car. Both vehicles traveled onto the east shoulder, Koonce was ejected, and the car in which she was riding caught fire.
Koonce and Young were both taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center in serious condition. Firefighters extracted Chatoney from her vehicle and she was transported to Bay Medical Center with minor injuries.
Chatoney was charged with DUI and careless driving. The accident was investigated by Trooper M.P. Mattingley.
