Develop mastery goals to help achieve your 2021 resolutions

The New Year is upon us and it’s time to embrace the fresh possibilities this new year presents. Start your year with a glowing outlook and attitude that will guide you through 2021.No matter if your resolution is weight loss or being more organized, planning can facilitate your journey.

Start with a mastery goal that engages you to learn more about your desired resolution. This knowledge will guide your resolution activities and enhance your ability to achieve the resolution. This in turn leads to performance goals that will be displayed as you actively display the knowledge and/or skills you obtained as you apply them in your everyday life.

Here’s an easy example, a resolution to run a 5k in 2021. By applying the mastery goal principle and seeking out a safe and feasible plan to aid with training for a 5k, the performance goal now has a viable plan.

New Year’s resolutions can roll off the tongue so quickly but leave our minds just as fast. By investing a short amount of time developing your mastery goal and embracing the knowledge and demonstrating the use of the knowledge with the performance goal, your chance of success has improved.
