The Blountstown Lady Tigers are back on the diamond as softball season is officially underway.

The girls opened with a road trip to Wewa Thursday and brought home a 14-0 win in five innings.

Brittany Griffin was on the mound for BHS, striking out nine, walking one, and allowing only two hits.

Griffin was also on fire at the plate, chalking up a double, two singles and a walk. Brittany Brown had a homerun and a single. Amber Burch added a double. Lyndsey Doyal offered two singles. Ann Marie Silcox, Genny Starr, Montoya Garrett and Anna Kelley each chipped in a single.

“Wewa has lost a lot of good athletes in the last two years,” BHS Coach Bubba Johnson remarks. “They’re young and have a lot of freshmen playing, and have a new coach. But I thought our girls played pretty well for the first game. I think we made only one error and Brittany pitched well. But we’ve got to get a lot better since we’re in a tougher district.”

The Lady Tigers are joined by Sneads, Cottondale, Bozeman, South Walton, Graceville, Holmes County and Vernon in their district which will make for some serious competition this season.

The girls hosted Malone Monday and traveled to Graceville Tuesday for their first district game (details unavailable at press time). They will be at Malone Friday for a J.V./varsity doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
