James Avery "Jimmy" Woods, 20, of Blountstown, FL, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010, in Gainesville, FL.

Jimmy lived his life with Cystic Fibrosis. Growing up with a terminal illness, Jimmy was always the bright light when he entered any room. He wanted to spread his light by helping others through his time and support he gave to the Cystic Fibrosis Fund Raisers in Panama City and state wide events.

God blessed Jimmy with a double lung transplant in August 2009. After a miraculous recovery, Jimmy went out to do activities his health had prevented him from doing in more than six years.

Jimmy suffered complications from the transplant and passed away gently into the hands of God.

He was born March 11, 1989, in Panama City and graduated from A. Crawford Mosley High School in 2007. He was a member of Southport First Assembly of God. When his health allowed, he was very active with Inner-Action Student Ministries at Southport First Assembly of God.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Jessie Avery, and his paternal great grandparents, James C. and Estelle Cureton.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Gay Reed and husband, James, of Chipley, FL; father, James A. Woods, of Blountstown, FL; paternal grandparents, Charles and Ima Jean Woods, of Southport, FL; a brother, Justin Alexander Woods, of Blountstown, FL; a sister, Cassandra Jean Woods, of Blountstown, FL; an aunt, Kira Higginbotham and husband, Bill, of Bozier City, LA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 29, at Southport First Assembly of God with Rev. James Guy, Rev. Nixon Riley, Rev. Joe Sellars and Rev. David Goodman officiating with interment to follow in New Southport Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 27, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Blountstown and Thursday, January 28, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Southerland Family Funeral Home in Panama City, FL.

Southerland Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (ph. 850-785-8532).
