Joe Leonard has been teaching for 25 years and has taught here at BHS 23 years. He teaches American Government and Economics; which are required classes. On an average day he teaches about seventy five students. He believes that the class is absolutely necessary and loves teaching it. Mr. Leonard is a huge Gator fan; which could explain why he loves the colors orange and blue. Watching the Gators with his wife Heather is one of his many hobbies. He enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening, barbequing, and spending time with his sons Daniel and David. His sons attend Blountstown High and it was a challenge when he had to teach them; he smiles, leans to me and says “It is one more hour I get to spend with them.”

Mr. Leonard attended the University of Florida, and Chipola College. He received a degree in Social Studies Education. He was inspired to teach by his former teachers. Teachers that inspired him include Mr. James Pelt and Mr. Logan Barbee. Mr. Leonard’s favorite historical person is Robert E. Lee, who showed extreme devotion to duty. Mr. Leonard’s favorite book is the Bible, and you can catch him reading or teaching about his favorite book at Sunday school.

I have been a student in his class for almost two nine weeks now, and I find his class very fun. He shows dedication to making sure that we learn the material. He is willing to help those who ask for it, and always greets everyone with a smile. Mr. Leonard’s class is never dull, and we have great discussions. I enjoyed interviewing Mr. Leonard as he enjoyed being interviewed.
